Dr. Gerdisch is the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery
at St. Francis Heart Center in Indianapolis,
Indiana and a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Loyola University
Medical Center. He received his medical degree from
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine,
where he completed his residency in General Surgery and fellowship in
Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
During that time, he also studied mitral valve repair at L’Hospital Broussai
in Paris. In addition to participating in The
Society for Thoracic Surgeons, Dr. Gerdisch
is active in the American
College of
Cardiology. Dr. Gerdisch has a special interest in less invasive techniques
for cardiac surgery. He has
lectured nationally and internationally on evolving technology and
techniques for valve repair and replacement, minimally invasive surgery
for atrial fibrillation, surgery on the
beating heart, and the physiologic properties of anastomoses
in the coronary circulation. In
addition to the full spectrum of cardiac operations, Dr. Gerdisch has extensive experience in various
thoracic procedures including video-assisted minimally invasive surgery
and vascular operations.
Dr. Gerdisch is involved in ongoing clinical trials for
the next generation of biologic heart valves, minimally invasive
surgery to correct atrial fibrillation, and
new surgical interventions for heart failure. His areas of special interest include
mitral valve repair, aortic root surgery, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, minimally invasive cardiac
surgery, beating heart surgery, and ventricular restoration.
