Cardiac
Progressive Care Unit
IThere are few facilities in Michigan as well equipped as
the Sparrow Heart Center to treat heart disease. Sparrow Hospital's
diagnostic capabilities often detect problems early enough
that medication and lifestyle changes are the best treatments.
"We also educate our patients so they will know what
to expect from the tests they may be taking," said Christine
Jodoin, nurse manager for Cardiac Progressive Care. "This
information is very important."
Sparrow's Cardiac Progressive Care Unit is the largest unit
in the health system with 47 patient beds. The nurse-patient
ratio in Cardiac Progressive Care is four patients to one
nurse during the day and five patients at night. All the nurses
report one-on-one about each patient during shift changes,
and charge nurses receive complete reports as well.
"We keep a close eye on our patients," Christine
said. "It's one of the reasons our heart center is recognized
for having such excellent patient outcomes."
